In our twenty-year history, many Minnesota-centric objects of natural history interest and significance have been donated to HSC. The collections housed at HSC are considered usable Program Use Materials (PUM) as opposed to a formal research and study collection and are inventoried and maintained for future use in programs as opposed to research.
HSC collections currently contain items in two main categories: biological and geological. The biological collection contains: amphibians (wet), birds (mounted), bones, skulls and skeletons, eggs, fish (mounted), herbaria (vascular, lichen and fungal), invertebrates (mounted and wet), mammals (mounted and skins), nests, reptiles (mounted and wet), and sea shells and sea life (mounted and dried). Geological collections contain: rocks, minerals, sand, and fossils.
We do not actively seek additions to our collections, nor to we actively collect. We do not pay for additions, nor do we sell from our collection. For more information please contact Collections Manager Anita Merritt.
