Arrival

When groups arrive they are given a brief introduction to HSC before entering the exhibit area (restroom locations, use of exhibits, no running, treatment of animals, handling of merchandise, etc).  We suggest having the students spend time on the floor prior to having a demonstration.  Click here to view available demonstrations.

Science Store

The HSC store may be viewed as an exhibit, and visitors are welcome to look through it.  However, we do discourage handling of merchandise out of respect for future buyers.  No more than 8-10 students may be in the store at one time and they should have an adult present.  All marked prices include tax.  Staff members will place purchases into individually marked bags for pickup by teachers upon departure.

Bus Parking

Buses can discharge and pick up students in front of Headwaters Science Center.  The bus may be parked at the waterfront parking lot near the visitor center.  Bus drivers are welcome to enter the exhibit area at no charge.  For more information on fees, click here.

Here are a few ways that you can help make your visit to the Headwaters Science Center an

enjoyable experience.

  1. Have an accurate head count (of children and adults) ready when you arrive.

  2. Collect and count all money before you arrive.  (HSC memberships, coupons, or other discount cards are not valid for school field trips, demonstrations, or outreach activities.)

  3. Remind your students to bring money for shopping if they choose.

  4. Provide plenty of chaperones. (Small groups of 4-6 students per chaperone work best.)

  5. If you are coming with a large group and are planning to have a demonstration you may need to divide your group for demonstration purposes.  (Groups of 25 or less work best.)  Everyone should know which group they are in so transitions go as smoothly as possible.

  6. Make sure you allow enough time at Headwaters Science Center.  We recommend about 1½ hours minimum.  Remember to bring a camera!

  7. Please plan well in advance.  April and May get very busy so get your reservations in early.

  8. Please let us know if you plan to eat lunch at HSC.
